Same-Day CEREC Crowns in Calgary: How Tooth Bar's One-Visit Workflow Actually Works
Calgary, Canada - May 23, 2026 / Tooth Bar /
For decades, receiving a dental crown meant two separate appointments separated by a two-to-three week wait. A patient would arrive for tooth preparation and impressions, leave with a temporary crown, and return weeks later for the permanent restoration. TOOTHbar, a full-service dental practice in southwest Calgary, now offers an alternative for qualifying cases: the complete crown workflow, from digital scan to final placement, completed in a single appointment using CEREC technology.
CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is a computer-aided design and manufacturing system used in dentistry to fabricate ceramic restorations chairside. At TOOTHbar, the workflow begins with a 3D intraoral scan of the prepared tooth. The scan feeds directly into design software, where the crown is modelled to fit the patient's bite. A milling unit then carves the crown from a solid block of dental ceramic. Once any necessary adjustments are made, the crown is bonded into place. For most qualifying cases, no temporary restoration is required.
"Same-day crowns are something patients are often surprised by," said Dr. Murray Knebel, DDS, founder of TOOTHbar. "When we can show someone their crown will be designed and placed in the same visit rather than three weeks later, it changes how they feel about the entire process."
WHO QUALIFIES FOR A SAME-DAY CROWN
Not every patient or every clinical situation is a CEREC candidate. The technology is well-suited to single-tooth crowns on posterior teeth such as molars and premolars, as well as onlays and certain inlays. Cases involving multiple adjacent restorations, complex aesthetic requirements, or significant laboratory customisation may still call for a traditional lab-fabricated approach.
At the consultation stage, the TOOTHbar clinical team evaluates the tooth structure, the patient's bite, and aesthetic priorities to determine whether the case suits CEREC, an in-house lab restoration, or another approach.
WHY SAME-DAY CROWNS MATTER FOR PATIENTS
For patients who qualify, the practical advantages are concrete. There is no temporary crown to manage between appointments, no second visit to schedule around a work week, and no chance of a temporary loosening or coming off during the wait. The digital scan also eliminates conventional putty impressions, which patients with strong gag reflexes or dental anxiety often find uncomfortable.
The same-day approach is also a clinical advantage in emergency situations. When a patient arrives with a broken or fractured tooth that needs a crown, TOOTHbar's same-day workflow can deliver broken tooth repair in Calgary in a single visit rather than asking the patient to wait weeks for a permanent restoration.
